Waves Title Sequence
Photography, After Effects, Cinema 4D
“Waves” tells the story of an African American family navigating love, toxic masculinity, and forgiveness. Tyler has a relentless pursuit for perfection, but in the midst of a challenge loses control and makes a mistake that ruins his life and tears apart his family. The film’s second half shifts to his sister’s journey toward forgiveness, symbolized by a watch that melts from a perfect machine into fluid metal which goes on to form another structure, representing the flawed ideals and eventual forgiveness at the heart of the story.

ProcessI set up a photoshoot using 2 lights experimenting with cool and warm shades, as well as a black backdrop. I used liquid metal, a hot glue gun, a watch and deconstructed watch parts. I added more liquid metal to my watch as I shot, making sure to prioritize clean close ups before moving on to destructing the watch.
I used cardboard to make a typography mold and then filled it with hot glue and painted it silver.

Type Treatment I chose Sherborne because I wanted a serif font that is strong and traditional to pair with my more fluid and modern visuals.
I used cinema 4d to backlight my typography to add dimension.
